PEDRAS SALGADAS Spa & nature park elected building of the year 2012

PEDRAS SALGADAS spa & nature park, designed by the architect Luís Rebelo de Andrade, was the winner of the international architecture award ArchDaily 2012, in the category "Hotels and Restaurants”.

Located in Pedras Salgadas, Unicer 's latest Hotel project, built at 580 meters above sea level, is characterized by accommodation in modern modular houses (eco houses) that appear between the trees, perfectly framed in nature.

Pedras Salgadas was the big winner among five finalist projects in the "Hotels and Restaurants" category, competing with Bamboowing (Vietnam), Hostel La Buena Vida (Mexico), Endemico Resguardo Silvestre (Ensenada-Mexico) and Dai lai Conference Hall (Vietnam).

Um dos sites de arquitetura mais visitado do mundo escolheu 14 edifícios vencedores de uma lista inicial de cerca de 2700 projetos, eleitos por votação online (70 mil votos), entre os quais ficou apenas um projeto português: o PEDRAS SALGADAS spa & nature park.

For ArchDaily, winning buildings are considered "unique in many ways, from their spatial qualities to their structures and materials, but also in terms of what they represent for society and their impact on local communities". The portal currently has more than 280 thousand visits and 70 million pageviews per month and is where architects have the possibility to share their projects with specialists from all over the world.

PEDRAS SALGADAS spa & nature park

PEDRAS SALGADAS spa & nature park is a tourist complex located in the northern interior of Portugal at 580 meters above sea level, in the heart of Parque de Pedras Salgadas, belonging to the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, between Vila Real and Chaves.

Located in the heart of the Park, the accommodation is made in Eco Houses - modern modular houses - which appear between the trees, adapting to the topography of the land and reducing the impact of its interference in the basement. The project was designed by the architect Luis Rebelo de Andrade and the construction of the responsibility of the Portuguese company Modular System. The Eco Houses include state-of-the-art technology, a fully equipped kitchenette, and a generous deck outside.

Recovered by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, the Thermal Spa (formerly Balneário Termal) offers a wide selection of massages, thermal and aesthetic treatments, sharing its areas with an indoor pool with water circuits, sauna and Turkish bath.

The Thermal Park of Pedras Salgadas, originating in the second half of the century. XIX, it is one of the most beautiful parks in the interior of Portugal. The approximately eight kilometers of paths run through several hot springs that contain water with proven benefits for the body. The route through the main avenue of the Park shows the richness of its history, while giving access to other services such as, for example, an outdoor swimming pool, mini golf course, children's playground and an attractive lake, with an area of more than 3000 m2, where boat trips can be made.

This new tourist destination also suggests a wide range of outdoor activities, such as the bike path, which links Pedras Salgadas to Vila Pouca de Aguiar, and duly identified mountain bike routes. More radical experiences are also possible, such as slides, rafting or more peaceful ones, such as guided tours of the Roman Gold Mines, local museums or tours along the Douro River.
